Sakura Taisen V
Gemini is an extremely special costume to me for many reasons. When the characters for Sakura Taisen V were announced, it was said that the setting in the game would be in the United States. Gemini is a girl from the Southwest who is also a samurai who has a happy-go-lucky attitude and always tries her best at everything. She never gives up. On top of all this, her image color is ORANGE, and all of her costumes are orange, too.
I made this costume for Charcon in 2004 because I wanted to pose by the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign, just as shown in the game. Most of all, I wanted to wear this to the Sakura Taisen Kayau show with hopes of maybe getting caught in one of the crowd panover shots that they use in the special footage in the DVDs. When I went to Japan several years before, cosplaying at Sera Myu was one of my happy memories, so I wanted to do the same when I finally got to see the Sakura Taisen show live.
As a total suprise, at the beginning of theshow when one of the series creators, Hiro Ouji, was doing the opening act, he called me out of the audience and the camera crew came by. It was a little overwhelming and very amazing. THis footage actually made it to the main DVD release and the clip of the exchange is shown below the photos.
During the intermission of the show, Hiro Ouji came to talk to my husband and me about what it was like living in Las Vegas and that he enjoyed visiting. It was wonderful to find that somebody whose work you respect so much was so nice, sincere, and eager to make a fan's dream come true. At the end of the musical, when the cast was doing their bows, several of the actresses shouted out to the gaijin fan.
It was an experience I'll never forget.
